How to Beat Horrendous Bank Lines in Ecuador

Ecuador is still “old school” in that the people still prefer to pay their bills waiting in line at the bank… causing horrendous bank lines, especially during peak hours around lunchtime and after work.

You can pay your bills online in Ecuador, but most don’t trust e-commerce just yet.

One way to beat the lines is to go in off peak hours or to get an account in a smaller bank in Ecuador (like Banco Promerica) instead of the big players like Banco Pichincha or Banco Guayaquil.

Freedom of Press Endangered in Ecuador: Correa Awarded $40 Millon in Suit Against Local Newspaper

This week a judge in Ecuador awarded President Rafael Correa $40 million dollars in damages for a suit he lifted against the Universo, the main newspaper of Guayaquil, for remarks made by columnists. The newspaper has appealed the verdict.

Correa Proposes New Penal Code

This week President Rafael Correa proposed a new penal code with new sentence durations per crime. He mentioned that it was important to make the distinction between more severe crimes and less severe ones.
