Someone once said that Ecuador is a country that is:
•EASY to love-
•HARD to understand-
•Impossible to forget-
'All the Very Best on Your Endeavors in Ecuador-
The Tilapia is a true Ecuadorian delight! The Tilapia is a fish that is often found in fisheries and ponds in the highlands and Amazon regions of Ecuador.
The meat is white and tasty, similar to trout but less “fishy”.
Locals LOVE it.
The best places to try it is in Puyo, Banos, Loja, Zamora and Vilcabamba.
Obleas are another unique to Ecuador food where they take two very thin, crunchy wafers, and sandwich dulce de leche or jam in between and serve them. A great treat.
The Babaco is a fruit I have never seen anywhere but in Ecuador! Not even in nearby countries like Peru and Colombia.
It looks like a rugby ball, and is completely yellow when ready to be eaten. The Babaco is native to the Amazon Jungle region of Ecuador and is sold street side in that area. It is a very tasty fruit, but has a flavor very different to anything you have tried before, a little tart, a little sweet… and You don’t eat the skin.
Must try!

This is an absolute must try while in Ecuador! Sold street side in most towns in the highlands, especially in Quito…this is a toasted Ecuadorian version of corn on the cob, toasted over a grill until soft, then rolled in butter or garlic sauce and then sprinkled with Parmesan cheese…a local fav…!

I know this piece of cake looks similar to what you are familiar with in the States, but it’s not…it’s far more moist, almost damp with special chocolate sauces…locals in Ecuador really know how to make cakes, pies and other sweets. (Nothing worse than a dry cake.)
chocolate and strawberries street-side in Quito Ecuador
This is a relatively common site in Ecuador, for $1 , get freshly made chocolate covered fruits in many cities in the Andes region of Ecuador. hey, if you liked this, you’ll love my weekly Foreign Investor’s newsletter for insider tips and opportunities in Ecuador…subscribe below(unsubscribe at any time):
