Ecuador Title Insurance Companies

Few know that Ecuador does in fact have title insurance companies, although they aren’t commonly used. If you own a leasehold flat, the building should be insured by the landlord who owns the freehold. Typically, it isn’t your responsibility to take out buildings cover (although you may still be paying the premiums, via your service charge).

In the comments please suggest the title insurance companies you know of that service Ecuador to get a good freeholder insurance service, Owns the freehold of a property which can include a building and other property or land. In a block of flats, for example, the freeholder would own the land and the actual building. The freeholder is usually responsible for the repair and maintenance of the exterior and common parts of the building. Your lease will set out who is responsible for carrying out repairs to your home, the building and to any shared facilities. The freeholder is usually responsible for arranging repairs to: the building’s structure, including the roof and guttering.

1 Necessary Vocal Skill for Life in Ecuador

There I was, my first day in Ecuador… while staying in the house of a friend… locked out in the street.

I had left the house to buy a water, and when I came back, the door was shut.

There was no doorbell (it was a poorer part of Quito) and knocking didn’t seem to do the trick.

You see, in Ecuador, as in everywhere in Latin America, folks have high walls surrounding their properties for security purposes so it’s not like you can just walk up to the front porch like in the States.

Finally, after 45 minutes, my friend appeared and looked confused… “why didn’t you just whistle?” he said.

Whistle, I can’t whistle… soon I learned his friends had a special whistle to identity when they were at the gate.

Whistling… a necessary skill in Ecuador.
