According to figures recently released by the National Census Board of Ecuador, more Ecuadorians are opting for apartments over houses, specifically, 70.6% live in houses versus 11.7% which live in apartments.
In 2001 72.7% of the residences in Ecuador were houses and only 9.1% were apartments meaning apartments have gained significant ground versus houses in that time period.
Some speculate the reason for this is due to increased security concerns, as most view apartments more safe compared to houses. Also, having an apartment can allow you to be closer to your workplace or school.
