The Ecuador Insider

I know this piece of cake looks similar to what you are familiar with in the States, but it’s not…it’s far more moist, almost damp with special chocolate sauces…locals in Ecuador really know how to make cakes, pies and other sweets. (Nothing worse than a dry cake.)

This is a relatively common site in Ecuador, for $1 , get freshly made chocolate covered fruits in many cities in the Andes region of Ecuador.

A French chef once told me in the US, “Americans love cheese.” I agree, 100%. We eat cheese on everything.

Well, in Ecuador, you will NOT be disappointed! The local cheeses are exquisite. Starting with this must try when in the Andes Mountains…called Queso de Hoja.

This cheese is made in leaves of plants and eaten right out of the leaf! Delicious! Amazing! Reason enough to move to Ecuador …stay tuned in the upcoming days for more must try local foods.

A must try on the coast of Ecuador, try the typical Corvina plato…a fish Ecuadorians pull right out of the ocean, fry, and put right on your plate….absolutely delicious…served with plantanes, salad and rice usually…

This week I will be highlighting traditional (and delicious!) foods of Ecuador. The local gastronomy is a HUGE reason why I chose to live in Ecuador after traveling large parts of the world…

This soup is very traditional Ecuadorian, and it’s delicious…you can get it with fresh fish (pescado), shrimp (camaron) or both (mixto)…

It is best in the cities of Manta, Salinas and Guayaquil!
