Expat Hang-out: English Fellowship Church Quito

If you’re looking for an English language non-denominational Christian service, I’d recommend this church at N39-172 AV BRASIL in north Quito.

Service is twice in the mornings on Sundays, Sunday School is also available for kids. The church is quite popular with several dozen attendees (mostly foreigners) each Sunday.

All are welcome. Great for meeting other fellow expats and travelers.

Kookaburra Cafe: Cuenca Expat Hangout

Kookaburra is a hopping little cafe popular with Expats right on Calle Larga in Cuenca.

Their menu boasts all-day breakfasts including bacon and other typical American and English breakfast cuisine.

They also have interesting treats like the Potato Tamal, a typical Cuencano dish.  (Pictured below)

Di Bacco: Cuenca Expat Hang Out

Address: Tarqui 9-61 between Gran Colombia and Bolivar

Another popular expat spot to meet and hang out.

Di Bacco is a quiant, up-scale Italian restaurant.  Prices are reasonable but not cheap with the pasta dishes starting around $5-7 for instance.

The atmosphere is more laid back with a quiet cocktail bar at the rear of the restaurant.

The menu boasts a wide range of Italian dishes, pastas, vegetarian, seafood, salads, pizza and more.

The food is good, if you’re looking for an authentic Italian eatery in Ecuador, this is one of the few good ones.

I had the vegetarian pasta primavera and it was good, I counted at least 10 different types of veggies in there, served with bread and olive oil, could you expect any less from an Italian place?

Great for romantic dinners with your significant other.

The Inca Bar+Cafe: Cuenca Expat Hang Out

Address:  Just up stream from the Hotel Crespo on the banks of the River Tomebamba on Calle Larga in Cuenca.

The Inca Bar is one of the premier expat hang outs in Cuenca.  An exciting little bar with a beautiful river view keeps hopping until 2 am and is often quite busy Wed through Sat nights.

I agree with what I’ve heard elsewhere on this one, The Inca Bar has THE BEST BURGERS in Cuenca, and quite possibly, all of Ecuador…for around $5!

The Guauk is the real chunky stuff we’re used to back in the States, not the liquid stuff prevalent in Ecuador.

Nachos, Tacos, Stir Fry and other bar food is also available.

The beers start at $2.

Come from 10pm-12 midnight for the liveliest atmosphere.

Classic rock often played.

Cafe Austria: Cuenca Expat Hang Out

Address: Calle Benigno Malo y Juan Jaramillo (corner)

Located right in the heart of the old town between the main plaza and the famous Calle Larga, Cafe Austria is one of the top expat and foreigner hang outs in Cuenca.

The Cafe has a small bar and wooden tables close together that provide a social atmosphere where people can meet and greet.

For me, the Cafe has an Old West Diner feel to it, like the ones back home in Montana, USA.

Happy Hour is 5-8pm Mon-Fri… drinks are half off.

The menu is rather basic with salads, sandwiches, pastas, ice cream, desserts but the variety of cocktails available is impressive.  Plate lunches are also served.

The fruit smoothies with flavors like Mango-Peach-Strawberry and the desserts are the highlight and a must try.
