What to pack? -- Ideal Packing List for Ecuador (on a budget)
How to Pack on a Budget for Ecuador:
Packing light is very important if you are going to take off on a big trip to Ecuador.
It’s true that your material possessions actually own you. The less you take, the less you have to worry about losing and having to lug around.
Also, having the ability to be able to walk a few blocks comfortably with your bag when looking for better prices sometimes is very important!
I personally travel with one school-sized bag I can sling over one shoulder. That’s it! And that’s all I need. The following list can all fit in one small carry-on bag.
1. Take as many clothes as you need for about a five or six-day period. Plan on doing laundry.
Take:
-six pairs of socks
-five to six pairs of underwear
-a pair of shorts you can also use as a swim suit
-Six t-shirts
-One hat if you’re into hats. If not, don’t take any.
-One waterproof watch with alarm
- No jewelry
-A key chain style tiny pocket flashlight
-One pair of jeans
-If your planning on working , take one pair of dress slacks, one nice shirt and one tie, with matching socks.
-One pair of sandals (a must)
-One pair of tennis shoes
-One pair of dress shoes for going out clubbing and working
-Two nice shirts to go out clubbing with if you’re into that
-One pair of cheap sunglasses
-No jackets unless you are going to a colder climate
-Pack extra clothes accordingly if going to colder climate
-Sunscreen (a must)
-One sweater (a must)
-Just prescription meds! All other meds you can buy abroad
-A guidebook of your choice
-One digital camera with large memory card
-Pens, notebook, and folder for storing loose papers
-Money belt to wear under clothes
-Passport, credit cards, ATM cards and all other documents you deem necessary for travel
-One small towel (I usually buy a towel, then cut it in half and take that.)
-Essential toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, nail clipper, contact solution, soap in soap container, deodorant, cologne (perfume), face wash, and chap stick (travel sized)
-Pack extra plastic bags and a mesh laundry bag
-Women will have to add their own essentials to this list, like make up, etc.
This list is a list of what I have deemed essentials. You obviously need to consider your own interests and needs when packing.
Other Packing Tips:
- Pack clothes that can be combined and used in several combinations and with accessories.
- Remember that when you buy something abroad that means you have to throw something you already have away.
- Remember that even in developing countries you can find basics like toothpaste and dental floss. No need to pack the whole bathroom cabinet!
-Don’t pack many books. You will be able to pick up new ones as you travel, and books are heavy!
-No need to pack matches or first aid kit unless you plan on getting way off the beaten path.
-One thing to take is facial cream and moisturizers you like. Your brand may not be in another country.
- Remember that some airports won’t let you carry on large containers carrying liquids.
-Take some facial wipes to use to clean your hands when water isn’t available
-Eliminate the need for shaving cream by just using your facial wash to shave.
-Don’t take many big bulky things. Instead, dress in layers for warmth.
-Walmart sells toiletries in special sizes for travelers
- Ask yourself for everything you take, “Is it an absolute ¨must¨?”
