Itinerary for trip to Ecuador Coastal Areas

2011

I am planning an initial trip the first 2 weeks of Dec 2011, my focus would be the costal region from Salinas north to Manta. As I am retiring this next year this trip would help decide weather to or not too retire in Ecuador. What would your recommendation be for a cost effective intinery to check on real estate for eventual purchase. I have seen properties in the Punta Blanca area that seem desirable. Any comments on this area? I have several other questions I hope to post in the near future concerning travel/lodgings etc.

I just returned from a coastal trip much as you described. I’m not an expert and it was my first trip to Ecuador. I used a guide, it was $100 per day. He used his car and I paid for the gas. I felt it was a better way to travel than a group real estate trip. I set the pace, stopped and looked at what I wanted and there were no schedules. My wife and I stayed in very nice (not fancy) hostals for $40-$50 per night with breakfast. I highly reccommed you visit Montanita on your way to Manata. I would also suggest you go on to Bahia. Hello Andy,

I recommend you go from Salinas to Montanita, then Olon, then Ayampe, skip Puerto Lopez and go to the Parque Machallila which has beautiful Frailes beach. From there continue north to Manta but Id stop for a day in Santa Marianita.

If you stop by my BB in Guayaquil http://www.GuayaquilAirportHotel.com upon arrival I can help orient your whole trip if interested.

Good luck, domenick

Depending on your schedule you might want to go a little further north to see what it is that is being talked about by many in the international press. The northern coast from Canoa up is a beautifully pristine coastal area just beginning to see development. If you like unspoiled and pristine beaches, not much traffic, not a lot of noise, serenity and peace, that might be a place for you to look too. It would be a shame to come to Ecuador without exploring other areas along the coast too. Just my opinion…opinions will vary…;-)

The best place to retire in Ecuador will be on Las Olas Golf Coures, South of Bahia.

Dec. 4. Hope you’re successful, bud.
My recommendation would be – make personal contacts in the areas you’d like to visit, first. Non-spanish speaking gringo’s wandering around townships alone, trying to get a feel for the market have both hands tied behind their back. Your search will be much more productive with a spanish speaker who is there to assist you.
