Hotel near U.S. consulate in Guayaquil

I need to make visit to U.S. consulate in Guayaquil in near future. Any decent hotels nearby consulate for less than $50? I know the Oro Verde is next door but it is a tad pricey for me.

Proof of Round Trip ticket for initial visa

Guyaquil to Cuenca

Fred, I would expect somebody who doesn’t understand economics and the value of foreign investment to think like you. Your grievance really should be directed to President Correa. You could also argue the mere presence of gringos is driving up the cost of rents for Ecuadorians. Of course you ignore the fact that many Ecuadorians are taking advantage of the demand by renovating and building new housing to meet the demand, hiring local workers in the process.

P.S. I can just about guarantee we will still be able to find affordable housing for you in Guayaquill 10 years from now.

I noticed on Dom’s hotel website that he has information for traveling to Cuenca by way of bus or van. I am surprised he didn’t plug it.

Brief excerpt from the book Culture Shock: Ecuador. The author claims Quayaquil more expensive, but it was published a few years ago.

“The best areas (Guayaquil) for expatriates are Los Ceibos, Puerto Azul, Santa Cecilia and Los Parques. Urdesa may still offer options, although it has become rather commercial and less residential of late. My favourite is El Barrio Centenario.”

It sounds like you used your investment CD to qualify for your residency visa. I have read that you need to lock the CD in for a one year period in order to qualify for the investment Visa. Just wondering if you can share your experience on this?

Along the same lines, I was wondering if a storage facility might be available that one could padlock in Cuenca or elsewhere.
