Bahia has a hospital, but capabilities are extremely limited. Last month (Jan 2012), my wife suffered a ruptured aneurism while in San Vincente. Getting an ambulance proved impossible, and she finally was taken to the hospital in Bahia in the back seat of a police pickup. When it became obvious that they did not have the capability to diagnose, much less treat her, we finally got a private ambulance from Manta to take her to Guayaquil. Overall, it took eleven hours from the onset until we got her to a capable hospital…
Once in Guayaquil, services seemed very good, but in remote locations even getting an ambulance is problematic.
