Family with horses en route to Cuenca area

We have decided to live in the area of Cuenca beginning July 2012. We are visiting in March 2012 to find a rental property with room for horses. My question is: it appears to me from my previous trips...

I have had some inaccurate information and irresponsible dealings with a contractor at Jama Campay. In August, I ended up going to Atacames instead of Jama because of this unscrupulus developer.

My experience is that north of Manta, the weather is not as sunny and warm as in the south. This may be why development generally has occurred on the southern coastline.

Also, the road trip from Quito to the coast around Jama is not quick. There is no new highways that cut the travel time to four hours or so. The closest beach area to Quito is about 6.5 hours driving. Its a beautiful trip but not short.

Civil Unions have been legal for about two years now in Ecuador. Many attorneys are not familiar with the process. My attorney in Cuenca can help you with this process if you are interested or know someone in need of direction.
