Working outside of Ecuador

My husband and I will be moving to Ecuador this year. I understand that with our resident visa, we will only be able to travel outside of Ecuador for a total of 90 days for the first year. My husband, on the other hand, will be needing to leave Ecuador for longer than that to work in other countries. We will be paying income tax in Ecuador. My question is this…has anyone been in this situation or do they know of any other credentials he needs? We want to make sure that we stay legal in Ecuador.

The law currently works like this….you are allowed to be out of the country for 90 days per year for the first 2 years, however if you do there will not be any issues right away…the problem will come when you need a new passport or use all your pages in your passport and have to get either a new passport or a page extension…at this time you will have to show a migrational report showing your movements in and out of the country and a visa certificate from the foreign affairs office. You will also have to show why your visa was granted…investor, retiree, professional etc. This is the time you will have an issue, since they will see your were not in the country for the required amount of days and they will deny your new visa. This is the law currently but is subject to change, however this law has not changed for many years. You may want to re-verify this with an attorney. Sometimes laws are not applied evenly here so you may not have any issues what so ever…but you asked about the law and staying legal. Hope that helped.
