I hear the coast is often overcast.
Are there areas on some part coast or nearby that get lots of sunshine most of the year?
I need to see the sun 3 times/wk or I get down.

Mike, I asked the same question, I am looking at Salinas area and my agent (in Salinas) responded: ” dec-may is sunny 99% of the time, with occasional showers. the rest of the time is mixed clouds and sunny, but virtually no rain. It is semi-arid here with just 4 to 5 inches per year”.
I do not know first hand, but from 6 months of research I think there are more clouds up the northern coast, but they do get more rain.–again this info is not first-hand.

The Yungilla Valley is about 1.5 hours from the coast(Machala) and 1.5 hours from Cuenca. Depending where you are in the valley you can have sun most of the year(part of it is desert) or just a few hours a day(Giron). Elevation plays a real important role in temperatures and sun in this part of the country.

The coast in the northern portion has some days that are overcast as do all parts, however the normal cycle is either to be sunny in the morning, then slightly overcast to sunny in the afternoon with overcast in the morning. There are days that it is overcast which most seem to like since the sun can be very hot since it is closer than other parts of the country and world being on the equator. I came from Florida and the sun was hot there too, however it is closer here and the ability to get burned even on overcast days is strong…where hats and sunscreen are words of advice.
