Find a Question:
Stayed more than 90 days in U.S. in first 2 years of residency
Hi Dom! I have been living in Ecuador since 2009 and your emails have been very helpful and informative! I got my professional residency on March 8, 2015 and I thought I didn’t have to worry anymore about visas. In November of 2014, I needed to go back to the states to work for few months because I needed more cash for a big project I was doing. I stayed for about 4 months and came back to Ecuador after without any problems. It just occurred to me that I should check and see if there is some kind of limit of how many days I can be out of Ecuador each year and I just saw that it is only supposed to be 90 days within the first 2 years!! I think I was gone about 120 days during the second year…now I have been here past the 3-month grace period and I’m worried I might be illegal without realizing it even though I am supposed to have an indefinite residency!! I think one thing that might help me is that I got a new U.S. passport this March, so the entry and departure dates of my long trip are in 2 different passports…do you think that will help at all and do you have any advice? Thanks so much!!
