In your recent comparison of Ecuador and Panama, you addresses the safety of Panama but not Ecuador. How safe is Ecuador?

My wife and I feel very safe in Ecuador…we live on the coast though and it seems the coast is safer than in the larger cities and towns, but I believe that is everywhere.

At night Id avoid walking long distances in Quito and Guayaquil. The rest of the country seems fine to me to walk around at any time.
I feel safety in Ecuador is increases as does the police force, but some may beg to differ.
Other than that petty theft is more common just like in any poor country so watch your things.
But the people are smaller than you in Ecuador and generally try to avoid conflict.
