Are there any legal requirements to rent out your home occasionally in Ecuador?

My wife and I recently stayed at two places in Quito that I found on airbnb.com. People rent out part of their apartments or houses. We stayed at one place that was a modern apartment building near La Carolina Park for 45.00 a night and the other was a condo in Cumbaya for 25.00 per night. Both places were clean and the hosts very friendly and accommodating.

If you go onto http://www.airbnb.com and do a search for Quito you find dozens of such listings. The options include nightly, weekly, or monthly.

So based on that information, there seems to be no legal requirements to rent out a home.

If you are speaking of the Ecuadorian law, the short answer is no. There are no real property management specialists here though which could make it harder for you to find tenants and or make sure your property is being cared for if you are planning to be an absentee landlord.
There is a necessity for a legal lease though if you are going to rent for longer than a week or a month at a time. Vacation rentals are different than longer term rentals.
