While I won\’t divulge my location – I don\’t need a nest of Americano Feos and Brit es-pats (as they all clump together, I refer to there areas as \”Anglo-American\” ghettos) living next hill down, but if you search, really good deals abound. I have recently agglomerated 22 acres of jungle, with a number of high hills, covered densely with different palms, and some quite rare. My fiefdom is located about a mile from the sugar-sand beach in a palm-fringed sleepy cove; rarely are the waves more than 18 inches high. The view from my hills are spectacular, and I am building a native-style (but 3 BR) house now. The locals I assembled (quite skilled) are building, and the total cost is about $ 21,000.00, including a 15-feet elevated deck, with Pacific view. My fiance and I designed the house, and I am with the construction every step. I purchased the incredibly beautiful Ecuadoriano woods (Saman, etc), myself, dealing direct.
Interestingly, Ecuador has woods (a few) that are teak-like in appearance. Most importantly, they behave very much like teak (a wood I know well, having lived in Thailand and East Malaysia (Sabah)). They are extremely hearty, and highly insect-resistant.
The land, which I purchased from several land-owners, after intense searches, and ingratiating myself with the Comuna, averaged approx. $ 1,500.00 and less per acre (not hectarea).
Heaven on earth. Contact Don – he is the professional to help you in your search.
Oh – one more thing. We are 100% self-sustainable – jungle soil, unlike the very poor rainforest soil, acts as the finest of humus. You can have some kinds of fresh veggies harvested daily, 360 days of fresh delight.
There are 2 necessary-for-life proteins (amino acids) that vegetables do not have.
The Pacific shore abounds with tasty marine life, for me, the tastiest sea fish are corvina and robalo. Use a casting rod with a salt water fly (come on – be a man!), and many is the time I have the first strike (and yummy table fish). In my area, the flats go about 1/4 mile out, so no boat is required (or wanted). Fun, food, wonderful climate, wonderful and caring people – what else to content a man and his woman?
Again, Dom is your best adviser.
