Can you bring Guns into the country? Shotguns, rifles, hand guns.
The short answer… no, unless you can get a special permit BEFORE bringing them down from the police…
Ecuador has very strict gun laws. Handguns and pistols are not permitted (only police). And sport guns like shotguns are permitted if registered with the Military Command Post (Comando Conjunto de las Fuerzas Armadas).

You can purchase weapons here though. You can not carry them on your person. You can have them on your personal property but if you leave your property with one you are subject to search and arrest if one is found. Just keep that in mind.
“You can purchase weapons here though. “You can have them on your personal property”
Are you disagreeing with DOM LarryP, or clarifying?
I think he is saying that you can purchase weapons but do not take them off your property. You need a permit to carry a consealed firearm which is almost impossible to get these days.
Hey Andy, there’s a lot of uncertainty out there in Ecuador regarding gun laws so this will be one of the next things I research, and Ill report back here next week on this thread. Saludos, Dom
I was just saying that here as in many places you can purchase guns both legally (registered in your name) and illegally (from someone), however it is not legal to carry one. Sorry if I was vague in my response. Gun laws can change rapidly and right now, to my knowledge, you can not get any type of permit to carry a weapon. Having one is a very personal decision.
I just asked a customs agent, he said you CAN own guns in Ecuador with a special permit fro the MINISTRO DE DEFENSA…but it would still be illegal to carry them outside your home. Id get the permit before shipping.
I bought 3 guns from a hunting and fishing store. The owner took me to a notary and the transfers were properly recorded. That is all that is necessary to legalize the ownership. Carrying off of one’s property is not allowed unless permitted which is possible to obtain but if you fail the psychological test or shooting test they keep the weapon.
