Over staying a 90-day Tourist Visa

Hi Dom,
You had this comment in a posting here on this Q & A in regards to over staying a person’s 90 days Tourist visa…what does this mean? I don’t understand
“Just show up at the airport and CHAO.” Please clarify. Thanks.

I would be very careful of overstaying any visa if you are attempting to leave the country. Not a good idea as you could be fined and forced to leave for an extended period of time where you can not return here for that time. Now if you are staying in the country and are in process of getting your new visa and your old one expires, no worries since you are in process according to the officials.
