Hi Dom,
When did you get confirmation that staying past my 90 days on a tourist visa will not incur a fine? My husband is VERY concerned (we’re getting very close to the end of our 90 days)that we haven’t started the legal paperwork due to not having the filing fee nor $ to pay an attorney….what do we do now? Thanks.

Caution….you can overstay as long as you are in process of getting your new visa…its leaving the country that would be a problem since you would have overstayed which could result in a fine and not being allowed to come back for XX months or whatever the law is at the time. I am curious though….if you are on a tourist visa and want to stay and not leave the country someone should have told you to begin the process right away as soon as you landed? Did you intend to stay or did the love of Ecuador overcome you like it has a tendency to do…that happened to me when I first came here…;-). The law states that once you in process you are fine, you just cant leave the country until you have your new visa.
