Moving from australia

Hello all,

I am moving to ecuador by the end of next year (2013), or as soon as i can afford.

I am a student and have a student loan and a credit card to pay off and i will be graduated by mid-next year. I am moving to vilcabamba in particular because i have heard many good things about farms in vilcabamba as well as the quality of air (because of the altitude).

I am wanting to have a farm and build my own home on the farm.

I want the farm/land to be moderately sized, because i will be living on it with my brother.

I would like some suggestions on how much to save (after i’ve paid off my loans) and general advice on moving from australia to ecuador and farming in ecuador.

I would like to move a.s.a.p

Thanks!

Hi Lina,

How much to save is very relative depending on your desired size of farm and style of living.

Id say come here with at least $15k USD and begin your new life. If you try to save up too much you may never get here.

Thanks for the reply Dom,

I would like the farm to have its own spring and big enough to grow a large variety of fruits, veges and nuts because i want to have an animal sanctuary and feed them from the farm. How much would i expect to pay for a farm in vilcabamba, around 20-30 hectares with farming possibilities and its own water supply?

Thanks,

Lina

Hi Lina, Well, Vilcabamba land prices have skyrocketed over recent years but you could get a farm NEAR Vilcabamba for around $8-15k per HECTARE. good luck, happy hunting! dom

Thanks dom =)

I typed wrong (i meant 20-30 acres, not hectares).. but what would be some surrounding suburbs near vilcabamba that i could look around for farming property? sorry to keep asking questions, but i know nothing of what to look for in farming land (soil quality, flatness of land etc) and i was wondering if you or anyone else knew much about what to look out for when i visit in june this year to purchase land. I will have a budget of $40 000. Thanks!!
