How to Get a “Cedula” in Ecuador?




How difficult is it to get a cedula? We want to get a retirement visa and permanet residency. We will be coming to stay and want to get a everything done quickly.

Once you have a resident visa getting a cedula(ID card) is a cinch…but they won’t issue you one without first having some form of resident visa. In the imigration office they’ll gladly tell you how to get the cedula once a resident. take care, Dom

Annie, “quick” is not a word that gets used much here..LOL!
Depending on your definition, I have had expats tell me they got their resident visas in as little as 60 days and others tell me it took 6 months and since you cant get a cedula without a resident visa this can be a long process. My best recommendation is to get a very good attorney that specializes in visas. My wife and I have corporate visas and have just started the process with my new attorney for permanent resident visas and I can keep you updated as to the progress if you would like.
