Hi! DH and I both have altitude and humidity health restrictions due to COPD. We’re looking for something not too hot (beach?), with expats, that also isn’t too humid. Just what ARE the humidity stats for the coastal/maybe part of Los Rios (?) region that wouldn’t have high altitude – but not RIGHT on coast? Also need an area that has good health care for later on. Thanks. The mountains and it’s valleys are just too high to breathe in.

I would suggest some scouting trips to the coastal areas. I have had a client come down with COPD that found the coastal area where we are fine, and then had another come down that found it not so good….it all really depends on you more than anything and your physiology with COPD. Dom is accurate that Los Rios is hot and humid, however there are other parts that may be better for you than others. We have a very diverse county climatically here and you can change climates within 15 minutes when driving. December through March is the rainy season on our part of the coast, which is also the hottest time of the year however our temperatures only fluctuate a few degrees all year. Having your boots on the ground will always be the best way and you may just find it a lot of fun traveling around and looking at the different areas that might interest you.

Id consider Salinas, it is not too hot or humid and there is a sizable and growing expat community there. Los Rios is HOT and humid!
