Employment in the Health Field in Ecuador

Hi !

Great forum, I’ve found lots of useful resources here. Thanks to all the guys that are helping out with this website!

On to the question. I would like to live in Ecuador (I’ve met someone there, and extremely enjoy the place), but am still stuyding physiotherapy in Canada. I still have a long way to go in my studies… is there any opportunity to work in Ecuador in a physio-related field? What would be the approximate income if I ran a private clinic? If I worked in another clinic owned by someone else?

According to my research, it would be definitely better to finish my studies in Canada, and then maybe work in Canada, get some savings, and then move.

Any thoughts, experiences, recommendations are highly appreciated.

Thanks :-)

Hey, my friend is a newly graduated doctor here in Ecuador and he makes $1000 a month, so nurses and other health professionals can expect to make less.

As for finding employment, I’m sure you could, especially if you speak Spanish, but nursing is one career that is possibly better to pursue in Canada when compared to Ecuador unless you don’t mind the drop off in pay.

good luck, Dom

Laws are definitely different here than in North America for sure…but if you are planning on starting a company, you might want to get with a business attorney and get some advice legally as to not cause yourself issues. I can give you a recommendation for a good business attorney in Quito if you would like.

Hi Dom,

Thanks for the response. Has your friend graduated in Ecuador or somewhere else?

Do you have any advice or knowledge about the physio field… that’s what I’m studying in and have more interest in.

As of now, I don’t see a real opportunity to get some savings if I would work there, that is my issue. I would definitely like to buy some land there some day and/or a house, and with the local salaries, it does not seem like a very likely possibility unfortunately.

Thanks Larry,

That prospective is rather far in the future… but definitely a possibility. I have some contacts in Quito, but will probably not be using them anytime soon.

Any other opinions are highly welcome.

Thanks!
