We have only just recently heard about Cotacachi as a potential location for retirement. I would love to have comments from those of you who live there or have information about this mountain town. It appears to be the ideal place for us. We would love to contribute whatever talents we have to Cotacachi and be a part of this community.

Ollie, I’ve been researching different areas and inquired about a few places in Cotacachi, I found the prices a lot higher than in other areas. I also checked into some of the condos and rentals none accepted dogs! The agent said you could petition the board maybe for small pets, that sent me searching somewhere else.
Cotcachi did seem to have a lot of ex-pats, but again similar houses there were way pricier than what you pay in many other areas. Much of the housing seemed new, intended for the expat market. This is not first hand, this is from my research.

Cotacachi is a beautiful, green valley in the Andes mountains about 3 hrs from Quito. The prices are a bit higher than most places nearby because many expats have already moved in, its worth a look but Id also check out nearby Otavalo and Ibarra, also nice places with a bit more local, genuine feel.
