I will be coming to visit on the 4th of March and have to purchase a calling card. My question is, should I buy it in the states or in Ecuador?

There is no need for a calling card in reality, there are many telephone cabinas where you can make the call from and just pay the rate that they offer. Rates are as low as .15 per minute up to about .25 per minute to call the US. If you must get one though, get it in the states, you wont find many here especially once out of the bigger cities.
