Buying a condo in Ecuador

Hello all,

How easy is it? I’m starting to think maybe it could be a good deal to buy a condo in Ecuador. I have never been there however I have read several things about the country for about 4 months… Well, I have read several tips from Dom newsletter and also several other sites.

I have the intention to visit the country next year so I can see myself with boots on the ground if I can live there with my familly.

Well, I have 2 questions:
- Do you think I can buy a condo there without visiting the country?
- Do you think I can buy it even if I do not intend to live there?

Those questions will help me to make decisions about how friendly is the country to foreigners and if it is a right place to me.

Thanks Dom for the nice site helping others make their decisions.

Hi wanago….;-)

Firstly, its very easy, however not sure I would buy anything site unseen in any country. You can certainly buy without the intention of living in it and renting it out until the day you might want to come here or use it, however I strongly suggest you come for a visit to see the country for yourself. My wife and I love Ecuador but there have been those that didnt for various reasons and no one can tell you what you are going to like or not. Being on the ground and doing research is the key. Asking lots of questions is a great way to learn as well, especially to those that are already on the ground. There is way to much misinformation on the net and even some in publications that should know better…but the reality is, you need to see everything for yourself in my opinion before making any decisions. Come on down!!

I know for a fact you can.

Do you think I can buy it even if I do not intend to live there?
Yes, make sure the area and building security are up to snuff.

We have rental property in Manta and do quite well. Keep in mind Manta is not $40K for a condo though. Plan on $100K+. Feel free to contact me about my experience, bflemming@pacbell.net
