What regions are more likely to be infested with mosquitos or other biters?

We live in San Vicente along the northern coast and have property further north.
We have been here for 8 months now and do not find them to be bad at all. We are from Florida and they are no where near what we experienced in Florida along our coastal area.

The most dangerous places for bites are the bloody hotels and resorts. While the same is true in fine New York hotels, climate changing has created a “superbug” version of the bed bug, and certain uncaring resort hotels, such as Alandaluz, located south of Ayampe, on the Ruta de Condylus, seem to provide safe haven for the worst of insects.
I woke one fine morning in Alandaluz Resort, to find my legs covered by more than 100 bites (the proboscis of the BB is split – one “nipper” is inserted and releases an anaesthetic; the other sucks blood.
I have many experiences with the poisons ivy, oak and sumac, and they are a walk in the park compared to the indescribable, uncontrollable itching. I found nothing to control the state, including near-lethal amounts of imbibed ethyl alcohol.
Many people suffer for a week or so – it was non-stop, sleep-robbing torture for me for 7 months (cases are known to exist for more than one year). The infections were such that now cured, my scarred legs appear as a losing argument with a 12-bore, No. 9 shot.
Alandaluz’s bed bugs are in the category of, “I do not know anyone I hate enough to wish this upon”, but, upon reflection, I think I’ll try harder.
During the daylight hours, the BBs abhor the light, so they congregate in room corners. Nighttime is fun time.
Carefully inspect all bedding for any minute brown or black spots. Strip the entire bed. If evident, the BBs will bite.
Lethal (against BBs) aerosols are now available, as are BB-proof clothing, bedding, pillow cases – even luggage liners (highly suggested).
Again, beware Alandaluz’s patented vampirettes, unless you are a masochist of the first order. Besides, the rooms are over-priced, the food is barely tolerable, the service is inadequate and Management does not understand English. Especially at account-paying time.

PS: As of this writing (Jan 15, 2012), the bed bug has not been incriminated in transferring any diseases, but as a microbiologist, I assure you it is only a matter of time.

On the coast… Id say the green, lush coastline from montanita to Ayampe has a lot of mosquitos and also on the north coast from pedernales on up to Atacames.
In the Andes the bugs are not bad at all.
