Bring silver to Ecuador




I am starting a job as a teacher in Ecuador [Quito]and always travel with my coin collection [carry on luggage] Can I bring it into Ecuador without any issues? not valued at more than 1000.00 US.
travel in Early August so an answer before I travel would b great. I plan to stay at your hotel the first and possibly the second night as and will make reservations soon.

Sure you can if you are speaking of post 1964 coins as they indeed are only worth face value, if you are speaking of pre 1964 actual 90% silver coins…sure if you can get them past customs in the USA as they are worth a bit more than the $10,000 negotiable threshold without reporting…you can report and possibly travel, although I am sure there will be lots of questions for a visit to a foreign land with a “coin collection” that uses the exact same coinage as what you would be traveling with.

You should not have any problems. There is a customs form that you fill out on the airplane to Ecuador. You only have to declare sums of cash over $10,000.
